CUT:
two pieces for exterior of bag as indicated above. two pieces for lining of bag as indicated above. contrasting, complimentary fabric recommended. two handles 4 inches x 30 inches two pieces of batting 1 1/2 inches x 30 inches
SEW:
1. On outside pieces,sew seams down each side and across the bottom, l/4 inch suggested 2. On lining pieces, sew seams down one side and across the bottom. On the other side, sew with opening of approximately 4 inches in the middle so that you can turn bring the outside piece through to turn and complete. 3. Iron all seams open 4. Double stitch bottom of each piece with box bottom seam, matching pressed side seam with pressed bottom seam. 5. Put the bag together in this manner.
- Lining goes right side out inside of the exterior bag - Make sure wrong side of each piece are facing each other
6. Sew handles in this way.
- On one length of each handle, press under approximately 1/4 inch. - Lay batting in the middle of the handle strip - Fold exterior fabric over the batting; the strip with the ironed under piece goes on top - Top stitch down the middle over the folded edge - If desired, add stitching on either side of middle seam for three rows of top stitching.
7. Lay handles inside the bag in this manner. One handle goes on each side.
- Place each end of the handle seam side up on the right side of the exterior bag... - Pin 3 inches from the side seams - The handles should be inside the bag with looped end down
8. Stitch all four handle ends close to the outside edge to stabilize. 9. Match seams for lining and exterior and pin. 10. Sewabout 1/2 inch from top all the way around the lining and exterior. This gives a second layer of stitching for the handles. 11. Pull the lining out of the bag. 12. Pull the exterior piece out through the opening the lining. 13. Shake to form bag with lining. 14. Find opening and top stitch it shut with a dart point on each end, 15. Iron the exterior and lining tops to make them even. 16. Topstitch about 1/4 inch from the top, sewing through both layers. This gives the handles a third layer of stitching.
